Prayer to The Holy Apostle Simon the Canaanite, or Zealot.

May 10 (23)
From "Polny Sbornik Molitv", p. 147.

O holy, glorious and all-praiseworthy Apostle of Christ, Simon, who wast granted to receive, in thy home in Cana of Galilee, our Lord Jesus Christ and His most pure Mother, our Lady Theotokos; and to see with thine own eyes the glorious miracle of Christ made manifest at thy wedding, when water was transformed into wine! We entreat thee with faith and love: pray thou unto Christ the Lord, to transform our souls from such as love sin, into such as love God; preserve and keep us by thy prayers from temptations of the devil and from falling into sin; and ask help for us from above, in the time of our despondency and helplessness: so that we stumble not over the stone of temptation, but walk steadfastly along the saving paths of Christ's commandments, until we reach those blessed habitations of paradise, where thou abidest now in joy. Yea, O Apostle of the Saviour, bring us not to shame who hope in thee, but be thou our helper and protector in all the ways of our life, and help us to complete this passing life devoutly and as is pleasing unto God, and to obtain a peaceful Christian end, and be found worthy of a good answer at the dread Judgment Seat of Christ: so that, having escaped condemnation in the air and the power of the harsh ruler of this world, we may inherit the Kingdom of Heaven and glorify the majestic Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, unto ages of ages. Amen.
