Lives of the Saints

St. John of Kronstadt: Life, Service Akathist Hymn

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
NEW EDITION! A "flagship" publication of the press, the Life of St. John here presented is designed for simplicity and ease of comprehension (though by no means a children's book!). The liturgical service and akathist hymn in his honor accompany the life. Thus under one cover are found both understanding and prayer, for those who wish to honor the blessed Father. This edition is especially well suited for giving to others some understanding of one who is rightly understood to have a special concern for the life of the Church not only in his native Russia, but in our native land as well -- he at one time felt called to the American mission, but the Church needed him worse at home.
Item# 2003. (DC: A) Paperbound. $3.50.

Suffering of St. Eleutherius

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
An immediate descendant of the apostles (his mother Anthia was baptized by St. Paul), the holy hieromartyr Eleutherius served in what is now Albania. By his witness he converted and baptized the commander sent to arrest him and bring him to trial. Both set off for Rome, as though to a feast rather than to trial, and there converted the governor Choribus. All three suffered martyrdom, and thereafter also St. Anthia as she kept vigil over their relics. For their steadfastness, and undoubtedly for the Greek meaning of his name ("deliverance"), St. Eleutherius is often invoked as a special friend and protector of women in childbirth.
Item# 2005. (DC: A) Saddle-stitched. $1.00.

The Life of St. Anna of Novgorod

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
It is often too far from the Orthodox conscience that for half of Christian history the entire Church, both east and west, was Orthodox (except for those groups which had departed into heresy in the early centuries, such as the Monophysites and Nestorians). While contacts between the Christian east and west were not everyday matters, it was not an extraordinary matter for the daughter of the first Christian king of Sweden to become a princess of Russia and ruler of Ladoga. What was extraordinary, then as now, was for someone of necessity so deeply occupied with the affairs of this world (she was also mother of seven sons and three daughters) to shine so brilliantly in piety. Turning the tables, she raised in the East and sent back to the West the orphan sons of King Edmund of England and Magnus, son of King Olaf Haraldson of Norway (who later inherited his throne).
Item# 2006. (DC: A) Saddle-stitched. $1.00.

SS. Euthymius, Ignatius Acacius of Athos

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
Each member of this holy trinity (united in spirit, sharing the life of the Holy Mountain, but unrelated in their lives and deaths) bore witness in the hostile environment of Muslim-occupied lands in the early nineteenth century to the holy Faith. Each paid for his "crime" by following in the footsteps of Our Lord, to his own Golgotha. Each prepared for his martyr's death by prayer and repentance, embracing it willingly and by no means accidentally. Each calls us, even now, to lives of repentance and preparation, to bear witness in lands occupied by the powers "of this world", no matter what the cost.
Item# 2010. (DC: A) Saddle-stitched. $2.50.

Kazan' Icon of the Mother of God: History, Service Akathist

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
More than a simple translation, the history of this beloved icon of the Mother of God here presented was carefully compiled by the translator from a variety of sources. The historical background prepares for a better entry in prayer into the texts of the liturgical service and akathist, which should deepen our comprehension of the divine economy of salvation... our deliverance from slavery to sin through the redemption made possible by the birth of the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Son of Mary the Virgin.
Item# 2013. (DC: A) Saddle-stitched. $3.50.

Translation of the Relics of St. Nicholas: Account and Liturgical Service

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
It is indeed rare for the Church to keep faithfully the commemoration of the translation of the relics of a saint into lands fallen under the control of heretics. That such a festival should yet be kept is testimony to the great and special warmth of devotion to St. Nicholas, surely amongst the greatest (if there be such!) of those in the Kingdom of Heaven. The account of the circumstances of the removal of his relics from their place of burial (which had fallen prey to the Moslems) to Bari in Italy provides the historical background for the service in honor of the event.

The Lives of the Holy Apostles

Br. Isaac Lambertsen Holy Apostles Convent
Far more is known about the Holy Apostles than is commonly supposed, even by Orthodox Christians who are well aware that there is a treasury of knowledge in addition to what is to be found in the Holy Scriptures. In some cases, of course, we know more than in others. The Life of St. John the Theologian is particularly ample and detailed, drawing heavily upon the record left by his companion St. Prochorus, one of the seven deacons. Each of the lives leaves the reader with a sense of satisfaction, of having some more intimate knowledge and understanding of one of Our Lord's chosen Twelve than before.

Kursk Icon: History, Miracles, Service Akathist

trans. George Skok, Isaac Lambertsen
The constant companion of the people of the Russian Diaspora, this beloved icon continues even to this day its own wanderings, from parish to parish and home to home. As before in Russia, it continues to be a fount of healings and wonders. The account here translated provides both the early history of the icon and contemporary accounts. Both the liturgical service and akathist hymn in its honor deserve regular use by the faithful.
Item# 2033. (DC: A) Saddle-stitched. $4.50.

Kolomna ("Reigning") Icon of the Theotokos: Appearance, Service Akathist

trans. Isaac Lambertsen
There is perhaps no icon of the Mother of God more beautiful, and certainly none which has more mysteriously and prophetically appeared in the midst of the People of God in recent history. Its form and location revealed in dreams to a pious woman, it was sought out in a refuse-heap in the basement of the Church of the Ascension in Kolomna... discovered on the day of the abdication of Tsar Nicholas in 1917.
Item# 2037. (DC: A) Saddle-stitched. $4.00.

Holy New Hieromartyr Maximus Sandovich

Br. Isaac Lambertsen
Since its conception, the Uniate heresy served as the tool of those who would undermine the strength of a people by destroying the integrity of their faith. The life of this martyr of the 20th century testifies to the fact that though a people may be subject to rulers, conquerors, and armies, Orthodoxy will never be. Includes an akathist and service dedicated to Saint Maximus Sandovich.
Item# 2874. (DC: A) Paperbound. $5.00.

Observations on Congregational Chanting during the Divine Services

Ivan von Gardner; trans. Isaac Lambertsen
An eloquent statement of the case for participation of the entire congregation in the singing at Divine Services -- which should be the norm, not the exception.
Item# 2209. (DC: E) Saddle-stitched. $1.00.
