Third Antiphon (Beatitudes)

8 Troparia: all from the Sunday Octoechos.

  1. Through a tree, Adam was deprived of his home in Paradise; while through the wood of the Cross, the thief went there to dwell. For the one by tasteing set aside the commandment of the Maker, while the other, crucified with Him, confessed the hidden God crying aloud: Remember me, in Thy Kingdom.
  2. Lifted upon the Cross, Thou O Lord as God, hast both destroyed the power of death and blotted out the handwriting against us. Do Thou Who alone lovest mankind, grant us the repentance of the thief as we serve Thee with faith, O Christ our God, and cry to Thee: Remember us also in Thy Kingdom.
  3. Crucified and rising from the tomb in power on the third day, with Thyself hast Thou, only Immortal, raised Adam, the first-formed man. Make me also worthy, O Lord, to turn to repentance from my whole heart and with war m faith ever to cry to Thee: Remember me, O Saviour, in Thy Kingdom.
  4. Thou hast torn to pieces on the Cross, the handwriting against us and counted among the dead, Thou hast bound yonder tyrant, delivering all from the bonds of hell by Thy Resurrection. Through it we have been enlightened and cry aloud to thee, Lord Who lovest mankind: Remember us also in Thy Kingdom.
  5. For our sake He Who is without passion, became a suffering man and nailed upon the Cross of His own will, He raised us with Himself. Therefore with the Cross we glorify the Passion and the Resurrection through which we have been saved, crying: Remember us also in Thy Kingdom.
  6. Let us entreat with faith Him rising from the dead despoiling the power of hell, Who was seen by the women bearing myrrh and said to them: Hail!, for our souls always to be delivered from corruption, crying at all times to Him with the gracious voice of the thief: Remember us also in Thy Kingdom.
  7. O ye faithful let us all pray with one Mind for us rightly to glorify the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a Single Godhead being in Three Persons remaining unconfused, simple, undivided and that no man can approach, through Whom we are delivered from the fire of gehenna.
  8. O Christ, Master of many mercies, we bring Thee Thy Mother who hast borne Thee without seed, in the flesh and remained truly incorruptible Virgin after childbirth. Give at all times forgiveness of sins to those crying a loud to Thee: Remember us also in Thy Kingdom.

Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 4)

Having learned the joyful proclamation / of the Resurrection from the angel, / and having cast off the ancestral condemnation, / the women disciples of the Lord spake to the apostles exultantly: / Death is despoiled / and Christ God is risen, // granting to the world great mercy.

Troparion of the Temple

Troparion of Sts. Menas, Hermogenes and Eugraphus (Tone 8)

Having mortified the fiery forms and movements of the passions by abstinence, O martyrs of Christ, ye received the grace to dispel the ailments of the infirm, and, living even after your death, to work miracles. O truly m ost glorious wonder! Bare bones pour forth healing! Glory to the only God and Creator!

Kontakion of the Resurrection (Tone 4)

My Saviour and Redeemer hath, as God, / raised up the earthborn from the grave and from their fetters, / and He has broken / the gates of Hades, // and, as Master, hath arisen on the third day.

Kontakion of the Temple

Kontakion of Sts. Menas, Hermognes and Eugraphus (Tone 4)
Spec. Mel.: "Having been lifted up..."

The right melodious sound of thy words, leading Hermogenes up from the abyss of perdition, set him on the rock of life; and Eugraphus, having denounced the emperor, hath his glorious head severed, rejoicing. And do thou e arnestly pray, O Menas, that all that honor thee with love be saved.

O Protection of Christians (Tone 6)

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, / unchanging Mediation before the Creator / despise not the voice of the sinner's prayer / but in that Thou art good / come quickly to help us who call upon Thee in faith / make speed to intercede and make haste to supplicate / O Theotokos // Who dost ever protect those that honor Thee.

The Prokeimenon in the 4th Tone

How magnified are Thy works, O Lord! // In wisdom hast Thou made them all. (Ps. 103:26)

Vs/ Bless the Lord, O my soul; O Lord my God, Thou hast been magnified exceedingly. (Ps. 103:1)

An in the 4th Tone

In the saints that are in His earth hath the Lord been wondrous; He hath wrought all His desires in them.

Epistle: (Colossians 3:12-16; Ephesians 6:10-17)

Brethren: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel aga inst any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but agai nst principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the e vil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The Alleluia in the 4th Tone

(NO Pause before first verse)

Bend Thy bow, and proceed prosperously, and be king, because of truth and meekness and righteousness. (Ps. 44:3)

Vs/ Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity. (Ps. 44:6)

And in the same Tone

The righteous cried, and the Lord heard them, and He delivered them out of all their tribulations.

Gospel: (Luke 17:12-19; Luke 21:12-19)

As Jesus entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, G o shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he sa id unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

The Lord said: But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. And it shall turn to you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. But there shall not an hair of your he ad perish. In your patience possess ye your souls.

Communion Verse

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest. (Ps.

148:1)

Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright.

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
