The Russian Ecclesiastical Mission

The Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem is initiating a special fund-raising drive. Besides the usual requirements, there is a number of extraordinary jobs - mainly buildings renovation and maintenance - which urgently need to be done (and are in part underway). A short list of those is included in the appeal, which you will find appended below: I will also gladly give you a more detailed description of our needs on request.
Of course we urgently need your support. The appeal will be mailed in December to all the addresses available to us, but we ask you to help us reach the broader circle of the faithful in your parishes. Please use it - or a variation of it, or your own words - in any way you prefer to inform the people around you of our existence, our problems and our needs.

Dear Friends:The Holy Land is an extraordinary land, blessed with a special grace. It was here that Our Lord Jesus Christ was made flesh, crucified, and rose from the dead; it was in this land that the Most Holy Mother of God and the Holy Apostles lived, here that Christ's Church was founded. For ages, pilgrims flocked to it. The sons and daughters of the Russian Orthodox Church always had a special reverence for the Holy Land, and streamed here by the thousands every year to prostrate themselves before the Holy Sepulchre with their sorrows, their joys, their gratitude and their prayers. It was by them and for them that the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, its monasteries and its churches were established.
The Russian Ecclesiastical Mission was not spared by the turbulent events of the twentieth century. Yet children of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia still live, work and pray for us in these monasteries, built in the Holy Land over a hundred years ago with donations collected throughout Russia.
But the Land of Grace is also a land of major social and economic problems for the hundreds of our priests, nuns and monks, who stand watch over Russian Orthodoxy in the Holy Land. The march of time and events takes mercilessly its toll on the churches, the services, the living quarters...The bell tower on the Mt. of Olives is in urgent need of major renovation; the sketes of St. Hariton and of Jericho are awaiting completion to develop into living monastic communities; the sick need care and medication (our clerics have no social programs or health insurance available to them); and our nuns' handiwork cannot cover even a small part of the costs of food and clothing.
Dear friends: we need your help badly. Without your assistance, our communities in the Holy Land will decline in a short time. Help us preserve our Russian holy places, so that we might continue to pray daily to the Lord from the Holy Land for the salvation of Russia and our sinful souls.
You can send us your donation simply by writing a check to the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission and mailing it to The Russian Mission, P.O. Box 20164, Jerusalem 91200, Israel . Please remember to include your name and address, so that we can send you a receipt. Send us also the names of those for whom you wish that prayers should be said in the Holy Land.
Please do not send cash in envelopes, as it might be lost.

Дорогие друзья!
Святая Земля - земля необычная, отмеченная особой благодатью. Здесь воплотился, распялся и воскрес Господь наш Иисус Христос, здесь жили Пресвятая Богородица и святые Апостолы, здесь была основана Церковь Христова. Испокон веков стремились сюда паломники. Особенно чтили Святую Землю сыны и дочери Русской Православной Церкви, многими тысячами ежегодно приходившие сюда, чтобы припасть к Гробу Господню со своими печалями, радостями, благодарностью и молитвами. Ими и для них была создана Русская Духовная Миссия с её обителями и храмами.
Бурные события двадцатого века не пощадили и Русскую Духовную Миссию. Но и сейчас в ее обителях, возведенных более ста лет тому назад на пожертвования, собранные по всей России, живут, трудятся и молятся за нас чада Русской Зарубежной Церкви.
Но Земля благодати - также и земля больших социальных и экономических трудностей для сотни священников, инокинь и монахов Русской Зарубежной Церкви, несущих вахту русского православия на Святой Земле. Время и события безжалостно разрушают храмы, службы, жилые помещения; колокольня на Елеоне требует капитального ремонта, нужно обустраивать обитель Преп. Харитона и общину в Иерихоне (взамен отобранного у нас монастыря в Хевроне); больным нужны лечение и уход (социального обеспечения у нашего духовенства нет), а рукоделие монахинь не может покрыть даже малой части расходов на трапезу и одежду.
Дорогие друзья! Русская Духовная Миссия обращается к Вам за помощью. Без Ваших пожертвований наши обители на Святой Земле придут в упадок в кратчайший срок. Помогите нам сохранить русские святыни, помогите нам, чтобы молитва о России и о нас грешных и дальше ежедневно возносилась ко Господу на Святой Земле.
