Famous for his courageous defence of Orthodoxy at the Council of Florence in the face of the Emperor and the Pope, he entered peacefully into rest in the year 1445. On his deathbed, he begged his disciple George, later the famous Patriarch Gennadius, to keep himself from the snare of the West and to defend Orthodoxy.
