Father, Bless,

"But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid..."

Distraction and fear---those are things that sink me. In His comforting, reassuring presence, focused on Him, in church, in prayer, all things seem possible. But then it is time to come down from the mountaintop, to return to the bustling city, to labor in the fields....the noise, the responsibilities, the dangers, the distractions...it is often too much for me. And I begin to sink beneath waves of despondency and fear...

Recognizing Him when He appears to me in the dark storms of my life is sometimes hard. But even when I know He is with me and recognize Him as the Lord and Master of wind and sea, even after it seems He is enabling me to do the impossible, all it takes is something to divert my attention for just a moment and the next thing I know all I can see are the waves, all I can hear is the howling wind.

Thankfully, He knows my weakness and hears my cries for help as I begin to drown in a sea of cares. He quickly arrives to rescue me and carry me back to the boat. This time I was only able to take one step on the water before I lost faith and sank. Maybe next time it will be two. "Draw nigh unto God and He will draw nigh unto thee." Even when I only make it one or two steps before I must cry "Lord, help Thou my unbelief!", He always makes it all the way to me.

By getting out of the boat each day as He comes and calls to me to join Him walking on the waters of the stormy sea of life, one day He will say to me, "Come!" and I will walk across the water all the way into His loving eternal embrace.
