The Lord's question reminds me of another healing in which the Lord didn't even ask the person if he wanted to be made whole--he asked the blind man, "What do you want me to do for you?"

There was a time in my life, not too long ago, in which it seemed that I was being asked this question, constantly....and I did not know the answer. For the blind man, the answer is obvious--"I want to see!" But for the one whose soul has been blinded--who is blind even to the reality of his blindness, there is no answer to this question. I wept each time I was asked and had to answer, "Lord, I do not know."

And then one day I suddenly awoke to the fact that I was blind. I could not see but now I knew that I could not see. At last I knew what I wanted and needed. At last I was able to cry out, as did the blind man, "Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me!" Luke 18:38 At last I could answer, "I want to see!"
