Having read this, and Deborah's comment, I suddenly became very much surprised: the question is so simple, and the answer to it seems so evident. But having asked myself a question: what am I most grateful for, I cannot find the answer! The general one is clear: I am grateful for being born, for being Orthodox, grateful that God opened the door of the Orthodox Church for me, for having my dear mother with me, and other very dear & close people, for having the ability of moving, seeing....the list can be endless. But what about this year? I find much difficulty in answering this question. It's all that I have just enumerated & much more. and much more I cannot see or appreciate...unfortunately - taking many things for granted. But I cannot name something certain for which I am most grateful THIS year...It seems strange. Of course I am grateful, and cannot say I have nothing to thank the Lord. NO! I am grateful. But I am unable to single out something concrete.
Maybe it is not that important? In any case, Deborah's idea is the most appropriate here, as I see it. Feeling this way, the answer will not be incorrect.

At our family Thanksgiving gathering this year my mother asked each of us to tell what thing we were most thankful for from this past year. And, although I didn't put in these words, I am grateful beyond words for being rescued from death when I was lying beaten and bleeding by the side of the road--and for being carried to the Inn where I am receiving healing for my many wounds.
