It is absolutely the same in our daily life: 2 people may observe one & the same scene or picture, and being asked them what they saw they may give different answers, the answers may also differ in the amount of details as well... A person sees more & clearly depending on the level of his comprehension, his readiness to percieve, his "efficiency". People have different notions of beauty as well. Spiritual understanding & perception is even much more difficlut. How can we hear "Their sound" if we are dwelled in our own multiple thoughts, impressions, minor passions? and even if we hear it - can we "recongise" correctly what is it? Only pure hearts are ready for the correct spiritual cmprehension of spiritual things. How can we hear spiritual voices & sounds, if we are far from being spiritual ourselves? They thought it was something earthy & ugly, something they had got used, and they tried to explain it all using the categories which were accessible for them. This is also why we do not see & feel virtue, though righteous people may be very near us, in front of us many times a day maybe...but we never can imagine who they really are in the eyes of God, as they seem so trivial, ordinary, unnoticeable, that they simply do not cope with our imaginary idea of real righteousness, which should in most cases be somehow effective, striking...We have anomalous, distorted notions of many things, expecially what concerts spirituality...and judge what we hear or see according to our rottenness. And in many cases - even more: plainly speking - what is virtual, godly, good is we are, all the rest, i.e. "good &..different" - they are, someone else. Thus veing deaf & blind, we see & hear only ourselves.
Our eyes are cleaned & our ability to hear sharpens as far as our heart is purified with God's help & as long as we live the church life, and this is a long & painful process, but this gives us the chance to see & hear other people, understand that they are also alive, as we are, they suffer as we do, they are here also because our God wants them to be. That they have the right to be, as well as we have it. We also will see that the world is a much wider than what we see nose to nose. and also God will enlighten our heart & feelings, and we'll have the possibility to see & hear things as they really are, and not as we invented them to be...
