These churches share in many points of piety,
tradition and dogma with Orthodox Christians, but differ in one or more serious
respects, which leave them, according to the Orthodox to be a body that has much
that can be admired, but nonetheless is not united to the one church because of
dogmatic differences and the physical and historical reality that they no longer
maintain apostolic succession, since at least at some prolonged point in time,
all their bishops were not Orthodox because of heresy (generally monophytism).
We respect many things about the Coptic Church, but wish to remind our

we cannot be in communion with them, because of their rejection of the
Ecumenical Councils of and After Chalcedon, and at least the ambiguity of
